Military Saves
Military Saves Week 2008
February 24 to March 2
Keys Federal Credit Union encourages
service members and their families to establish savings goals and set
money aside for emergencies and other needs.
Keys Federal Credit Union proudly
supports this effort by asking military members to join Military
Saves. We see an incredible need for improved saving habits in
today’s world. Our credit union is in business to help our members
build wealth and use credit wisely, and we welcome this initiative.
Military people just like you are
proving you don’t have to be rich to build wealth. From junior
enlisted ranks to stay-at-home moms, from teenage family members to
NCOs, officers, civil servants, Sr NCOs, retirees, veterans and
contractors, those who serve America are serving their futures by
saving money.
As members of Military Saves, they
are paying off their debts, and saving to reach their financial
goals.
Together, Military Savers create a
world where we support and encourage each other as we stay out of
debt (even if that means driving an old car!) and save money every
single pay day!
Individuals and families can join
by registering their savings or debt reduction goal (click here).
When you join, you’ll receive an email reminding you of your savings
plan, and the American Saver newsletter (by email) four times a
year.
Enroll today! Visit
www.militarysaves.org
for more information or to sign up for the program.
Military Saves is part of the
nationwide campaign, America Saves, and is sponsored by Consumer
Federation of America, the Department of Defense, the NASD Investor
Education Foundation, and a nationwide network of Defense Credit
Unions and Military Banks. Part of the DOD Financial Readiness
Campaign, Military Saves encourages leaders to focus attention on
encouraging their troops to get out of debt and save money.

Build Wealth, not
Debt
Savings Tips
Dining out can drain a
wallet by $10 to $80. Eat out two fewer times in a month and save
at least $45.
Instead of heading to the
bookstore, go to the library and borrow a book. Savings =
$15.
Brown bag it - Pack your
lunch. Think about it, ordering out for lunch every day ($6 per
day x 5 days a week = $30 per week. $30 per week x 52 weeks =
$1,560 a year).
Cut out one carbonated
beverage a day and save $10 each month.
AAFES matches competitors’
prices and there’s no sales tax. On a $300 item, your savings is
about $20.
From 10 to 15 percent of your home’s electricity costs can be
controlled with the flip of a switch – a light switch. Compact
fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) use up to 75 percent less energy and
last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. CFLs have
improved tremendously since first introduced. They have become
smaller, cheaper, brighter, and offer improved color quality.
Look for the best gas prices – which might not be the most
convenient. Just 10 cents a gallon adds up to about $150 per year.
If you invest $5 a day for 40 years at 10% interest, you
will have $1,000,000 in retirement. See
chart.
